The scholarship will provide me with financial freedom to pursue my ambition of studying a Bachelors in Computer Science alongside minor in Business. I will be able to dedicate my entire time to academics, networking and gaining exposure within the field.
As I look back on the past few years of my life, I'm reminded of a quote by my favorite philosopher, Albert Camus: "In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer."
After my A levels, moving from a small city in Pakistan to Oman was a hard decision for my family and me, I had to start all over again in a new, unfamiliar place. It elicited feelings of both excitement and homesickness for me as I tried to adapt to a new culture right. But as time progressed, the hospitality and amicability of the Omani culture made me feel at home again and I started looking forward to pursuing my undergraduate education here. As I was moving forward, life dealt me a cruel blow— someone in my family got diagnosed with a chronic illness which left me no choice but to defer my university plans. I took up the responsibility to support my family both morally and financially therefore, I undertook an internship as a sales coordinator at Nakheel Oman Trad. Co East where I worked for one year. During the internship I gained experience in keeping the logistics of the company organised but it didn't seem to satisfy my drive to solve complex problems like those involved in programming and coding.
Despite the hardships that I have had to endure in these past few years, I did not let my dreams dissipate— there is within me an invincible summer. I have always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and business, this is a passion of mine which can only come to life if I am relieved of the financial stressors.
